What is Mountain Skillz?

Who is Matt Entz?

THANK YOU to everyone that made last winter so great! The 2013-2014 season was very busy here at MOUNTAIN SKILLZ. It was a lot of fun to meet and work with so many passionate mountain snowmobilers. These enthusiasts traveled from all over the United States and skill levels varied from 1st timers to very experienced advanced riders. We are again operating FULL TIME for the 2014-2015 season along with offering a number of unique and special events. The inaugural Women’s Technical Riding Clinic last March was such a big hit, that we are planning a couple more for this season. Be sure to check out the preseason specials and keep an eye out for the release of additional events. Our mission at MOUNTAIN SKILLZ with Matt Entz is to responsibly and respectfully promote snowmobiling, safety, and awareness while providing our clients with individual-based instruction and information to enhance their mountain snowmobiling experience. This starts with an understanding and basic knowledge of avalanche safety. Partnered with The Wolf Creek Avalanche School for the fifth winter, we are offering a limited number of snowmobile oriented Avalanche Safety CoursesBrian Lundstedt from Tyler’s Backcountry Awareness returns to share his passion for motorized user avalanche education. These courses operate under The Wolf Creek Backcountry special use permit by the Rio Grande National Forest. MOUNTAIN SKILLZ Instructional Riding Workshops operate under Wolf Creek Snowmobile Tours special use permit by the San Juan National Forest.

At MOUNTAIN SKILLZ, we stress reading and understanding the daily avalanche forecast and bulletin along with the local weather forecast. All students are required to carry proper avalanche gear(properly functioning beacon, metal shovel, probe, and backpack) which we can provide at NO COST for daily use thanks to our friends at SnowPulse/MAMMUT. Throughout each day, students will evaluate snow conditions and terrain, practice proper technique with avalanche gear, and practice safe travel management. Our focus on improving your riding skills and technique is based on your individual ability and experience. Choose between one, two, or three day workshops. Through our skill assessments, you will have the opportunity to learn and apply proper technique to a wide variety of mountain riding disciplines including riding a sled on edge, downhill descent, sidehilling, tree navigation, breaking trail, powder turns, climbing, turning out, jumping, getting unstuck, and much more. Whether you are a beginner, experienced veteran, or anywhere in between, we are dedicated to helping you. With improved “MOUNTAIN SKILLZ”, you will have a new-found confidence in your preparation, decision making, awareness, and riding abilities resulting in a safe and awesome mountain snowmobiling future! SEE YOU ON THE SNOW!

We sure are!  As the snow show season winds down and the snow is accumulating at higher elevations, the itch to ride gets stronger every day.  There certainly are many contributing factors building excitement and anticipation for this winter.  I have lost track of the current description for the El Nino weather event that may […]

  • Supporting the Pink Ribbon Riders

October is ‘Breast Cancer Awareness’ month. There are many great foundations and organizations dedicated to awareness, research, and assisting breast cancer patients. One in particular that stands out to us at Mountain Skillz is the snowmobiling-based Pink Ribbon Riders. From their website, “The Pink Ribbon Riders® is a small non-profit organization that provides direct financial […]

  • 2016 Polaris Pro RMK- RIDE EXPERIENCE

A couple of weeks ago I had the honor of spending a half day on the 2016 Polaris Pro RMK 800 along with a couple of the Polaris engineers, marketing team, and additional test riders. We were asked to truly test the sled and ride as we would our own. From that experience they […]
